Key Elements in reading and how they enhance the meaning of literary text. (ELA.11.R.1.1)
Context is crucial for comprehending what an author is trying to say and more importantly how we understand that message.
We can better understand how to do this by breaking the concept down into Layers.
Examine the text on a “Literal level” in this way we simply examine the words for their literal definitions.
How does the use of these words make you feel? We should be asking us what mood is being evoked by those words.
What seems to be the authors attitude in the context of these words?
Now with all this in mind, what an we say that we believe is the authors purpose for writing this?
Success starts with us.
There will be times when a child does not want to engage in anything learning related.
So we should have a system in place that positively curtails this behavior.
9:00 AM: Organizational Skills = reward for completing task
9:30 AM: On-task during Reading =reward every 15 min
10:30 AM:Task Completion = reward after 3 problems
12:00 PM: Lunch/Break= reward for behavior
This is an example schedule of how to approach positive reinforcement through a system of rewards.
We should look to engage in “Respectful Redirection” when during the process of learning the children will invariably make mistakes. It is good practice to give in the moment feed back in as concisely a manner as possible.
